Il 5 agosto, presso il Beverly Hilton Hotel di Los Angeles, sono stati assegnati i premi della Television Critics Association. 

A trionfare nelle rispettive categorie sono state The Handmaid’s Tale, il drama di Hulu tratto dal best-seller di Margaret Atwood e interpretato da Elizabeth Moss; Atlanta, la dramedy di FX creata ed interpretata da Donald Glover; e Big Little Lies, miniserie targata HBO con Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern e Shailene Woodley.
 
Il presidente della Television Critics Association, Amber Downling, ha dichiarato:
“Questa è stata una delle stagioni televisive più variegate di recente memoria. Tantissimi show hanno saputo dare qualcosa di diverso. Abbiamo visto performance incredibili e storyline audaci che ci hanno sfidato, emozionato e inquietato, rinforzando il panorama televisivo con nuove modalità che raramente avevamo visto prima.”
